An Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse at St Philomena P.U. College, Puttur.

To commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Dakshina Kannada District Police, Puttur, in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Police Department, CIP-IRCA, Fr Patrao Hospital, and St Philomena P.U. College, Puttur, organized an Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse on 22 June 2026.

Addressing the students, Mr Chandan, Counsellor, CIP-IRCA, Fr Patrao Hospital, said that many youngsters today are becoming curious about drugs, which can lead them towards addiction. He emphasized that positive changes should begin in student life itself. He advised students to utilize their free time productively by participating in sports and other constructive activities rather than engaging in harmful habits. He explained the adverse effects of drug abuse, stating that drugs damage the lungs and affect the overall functioning of the body. He urged students to stay away from drugs and cultivate good habits that would help them lead healthy and successful lives. He also encouraged those who are addicted to drugs to seek help from counselling centres and suggested that parents, too, should undergo counselling whenever necessary to support their children effectively.

Mr Johnson, Inspector, Sub-Divisional Police Department, addressed the gathering and stressed the need for students to remain alert and aware of the dangers of drug abuse. He pointed out that drug consumption is increasing in society and warned students against falling prey to this menace. He stated that drug use offers no benefits and only results in harmful side effects that can ruin one's health, future, and family life. He urged students to make wise choices and stay away from drugs.

The Principal, Rev Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, St Philomena P.U.College, Puttur welcomed, proposed Vote of thanks and compered the programme.
