An Awareness Programme on Plants that Heal:Exploring the World of Herbal Medicine at St Philomena P.U.College, Puttur.
Sanskrit Sangha organized an awareness programme on "Plants that Heal:
Exploring the World of Herbal Medicine" at St Philomena P.U.College, Puttur on 9th July 2026.
The President of the programme, Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, Principal of St Philomena P.U. College, Puttur, said that Sanskrit is one of the world's most ancient languages and serves as the cradle of a rich cultural, literary and scientific heritage. He noted that the language possesses a unique tradition and has greatly influenced many fields of knowledge. Referring to Ayurveda, he said that the traditional Indian system of medicine has its roots in Sanskrit and continues to occupy a prominent place in healthcare. He emphasized that while modern allopathic medicine is indispensable, the wisdom of Ayurveda and its holistic approach should also be appreciated. He encouraged students to make the best use of the vast knowledge preserved in the Sanskrit language and to learn about the remarkable healing properties of medicinal plants.

Department of Dravyaguna Vibhaga, Sharada Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital,Thalpady, Mangalore, described Sanskrit as the language of the Gods and highlighted its timeless relevance in promoting health and well-being. Quoting the principle, "Prevention is better than cure," he pointed out that many health problems today arise from unhealthy food habits and lifestyles. He explained that Ayurveda focuses on both preserving the health of a healthy person and treating those who are ill. He also familiarized the students with the medicinal value of herbs commonly used in the kitchen and emphasized the importance of acquiring basic knowledge about traditional remedies, while reminding them that medicines may also have side effects if used without proper understanding.
The programme was co ordinated by Mr Suresh Kumar K, Convenor of Sanskrit Sangha.
