Philo Desserts - "Taste, Sip, Enjoy!" was a resounding success at St Philomena P.U. College, Puttur, organized by the Department of Commerce on August 20th, 2025. The event was graced by the President, Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, Principal, St Philomena P.U.College, Puttur . He stated, “The belief that cooking is meant only for girls is a stereotype that must be corrected. While many women excel in cooking for their families, men too play a dominant role in the culinary industry as professional chefs and cooks in hotels and restaurants". He added that when we visit hotels or food stalls, we often see male chefs, cooks and even street vendors. The truth is that men usually cook in large quantities outside the home, whereas women often prepare meals for their families inside the home. Ultimately, both men and women are capable of cooking well and it is time to break these gender-based stereotypes and appreciate the culinary talent of everyone.

The Chief Guest, Mrs Laveena L. Santhmayor , Lecturer in Commerce, GPUC for Girls ,Mukrumpady ,Puttur remarked that every student is unique in their own way. She quoted Malala Yousafzai’s words: “One book, one teacher, can change the world,” and added that this is clearly reflected in the dedication of our teachers, who go beyond classrooms to nurture students’ skills. She emphasized that education should not be confined to exams and marks, but should focus on fostering creative thinking and innovative ideas. Success, she noted, begins with hard work, dedication, and the courage to think big. Quoting a wise saying, she reminded the students: “Being the son or daughter of a millionaire is luck, but becoming a millionaire from nothing is an achievement.” She concluded by advising the students to be achievers, not merely lucky beneficiaries.

The occasion was further enriched by a vibrant showcase of cultural programs, expertly organized by the students of the college. The event also featured an exhibition and sale of delectable food products, lovingly prepared by the students themselves. This delightful display of culinary skills and creativity added a mouth-watering dimension to the celebrations, making it truly an unforgettable experience.

Mr Govinda Prakash, Dean of Commerce welcomed the gathering. Mrs Philomena Montheiro, Department of Commerce proposed the vote of thanks.Sai Nandan (II ECBA) compered the programme.
