St Philomena P. U. College,Puttur celebrated Philo Utsav - Annual Day.

St Philomena P.U.College, Puttur celebrated its much awaited Annual Day- Philo Utsav on 29th November 2025 . The President, Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, Correspondent ,Mai De Deus Educational Institutions,Puttur ,the Chief Guest, Prof. Leo Noronha, Former Principal ,St Philomena College ( Autonomous) ,Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Moteiro, Principal, St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur along with other dignitaries received a ceremonial welcome including a guard of honour and an impressive band procession.

reminded the students, never to forget the love and sacrifices made by their parents. He said that being obedient and responsible is the greatest return gift children can offer them. He urged the students to have faith in God and emphasized that it is the parents’ responsibility to guide their children towards leading an independent life. He advised the students to remember that life is precious and at their age, attraction can easily become a distraction. Therefore, he encouraged them to work hard and make their parents proud.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Leo Noronha, Former Principal St Philomena College ( Autonomous) emphasized that honesty is the best policy, noting that honesty is reflected in both our words and actions. To shape a bright future, we must cultivate honesty, excellence and integrity. When these values come together, true education begins, forming the hallmark of any institution. He further stated that guiding children in the right direction is not an easy task , it is a profound responsibility in which teachers play a vital role in shaping their future.

St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur appreciated the students, stating that education is an exercise that brings out the best in each individual. Quoting Aristotle, he reminded them that the roots of education are bitter, but the fruits are sweet. He added that the true purpose of education is to cultivate inner beauty, develop the ability to read and write, nurture common sense and enhance one’s capacity to communicate effectively.

The Guest of Honour, Dr Shriprakash B, President, Alumni Association remarked that parents are the ones closest to students, guiding and supporting them throughout life. He noted that birth and death are the part of life’s natural cycle, reminding us to be grateful for everything God has given us. He encouraged students to set meaningful goals and pursue the things that bring them true happiness.

The college annual report was the highlight of the event where in all the events, activities along with the academic achievements of the staff and the students were reported by the Principal, Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta.

Meanwhile, the dignitaries felicitated the National-level players and honoured the five state toppers—Neethi N.B., M. Deepa Nayak, Fida Haleema, Adithi D., and Ancina Reji, who secured the 9th rank with an outstanding 591/600. They also recognised other meritorious students, along with the multi-talented students of the year and the champion class of the year.

Mrs Vatsala P and Mr Joseph Mascarenhas were felicitated on the occasion of retirement, honouring their dedicated service and valuable contributions.

Mr Jerald D'Costa, Vice-President, Parish Pastoral Council, Mai De Deus Church and Mrs Divya Anil Rai, Vice President, Parent Teacher Association were present on the occasion.

The programme was co ordinated by the Convenors of Students' Council ,Mr Govinda Prakash C.H.,Dept of Computer Science, Mrs Philomena Monteiro , Dept of Commerce and Mrs Kavitha, Dept of Biology.

The formal function was followed by the cultural event which was co ordinated by the convenors of Fine Arts Association, Mrs Rashmi , Dept of Physics, Mrs Jyothi ,Dept of Sociology, Mrs Ashalatha Dept of Mathematics , Mrs Poornima D.S Dept of Statistics, Mr Sharath Kumar Alva, Dept of History Ms Vinola Amitha Lobo, Dept of Chemistry ,Mrs Manuja P., Dept of Commerce and Ms Lavisha D’Cunha, Dept of Chemistry.

Deepthi K C, President of Students' Council welcomed the gathering. Mr Thejas A.K., Secretary of Students' Council proposed Vote of thanks. Mr Bharath Kumar, Dean of Arts introduced the Chief Guest. Mrs Usha Rai and Mrs Rashmi from the Department of Physics presented the service appreciation note. Mr Harshith Kumar , Dept of Biology compered the programme.
