The annual general body meeting of Parent Teacher Association was held at St Philomena P.U.College, Puttur on 25/07/2026 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall.

The dignitaries inaugurated the meeting by lighting the lamp.

The President, Rev. Dr John Baptist Saldanha, Correspondent, Mai De Deus Educational Institutions in his presidential remarks reiterated the institution's commitment to the holistic development of students by introducing innovative courses that would equip them with the knowledge and skills required for their future. He observed that today's Gen Z students prefer visual and experiential learning to lengthy lectures, as they learn more effectively through observation and hands-on experiences. He also urged parents to play an active role in shaping their children's character at home by instilling good values and guiding them to become responsible, disciplined, and compassionate individuals.

The Resource Person, Mr Chandrashekar Bilinele, Personality Development Trainer and NSS Programme Officer, KVG Polytechnic, Sullia, delivered an insightful talk on the topic "Parent–Teacher Collaboration: The Key to Children's Success."He highlighted the growing emotional vulnerability among today's students and observed that many struggle to cope with life's challenges. He noted that many young people tend to live in a world of illusion rather than reality and urged parents to help their children develop a realistic outlook towards life. Emphasizing that home is a child's first school, he said that children learn their earliest values and habits from their families. He expressed concern over the declining sense of respect among children and stated that parents and teachers are the two pillars responsible for shaping a child's character. He also spoke about the rapid technological changes in society and the widespread use of mobile phones among students, which expose them to a variety of influences. He stressed that it is the responsibility of parents to guide their children and nurture good character and values.

He pointed out that many students today find it difficult to handle even simple problems. Therefore, he encouraged parents to spend quality time with their children, sit with them while they study, and avoid excessive use of mobile phones and television in their presence. He also advised parents to be positive role models, communicate regularly with their children, and enquire about their day-to-day activities.

Concluding his address, he reminded parents that their children are their greatest asset and encouraged them to prioritize their children's well-being over material possessions. While acknowledging that children may have many dreams and aspirations, he advised parents to help them understand the family's limitations and to support them without placing undue pressure on them.

Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, Principal, St Philomena P.U.College , Puttur gave a brief introduction about the college. He informed the parents that around 740 students had been admitted to the First PUC, bringing the total student strength to 1,416.He emphasized that the college's primary aim is to provide quality education along with discipline while ensuring the holistic development of every student. He also highlighted the various coaching programmes offered for Science and Commerce students, along with remedial classes to support academically weaker students.He stressed that maintaining 75% attendance is compulsory. He urged parents to ensure that their children attend classes regularly and inform the Academic Advisors whenever leave is required.He advised parents not to give their children excessive amounts of money and, if they do, to keep track of how it is spent. He clarified that the college does not collect money from students for any unauthorized purpose.

He also reiterated that mobile phones are strictly prohibited on the college campus and that the college does not circulate notes through mobile phones. Students are not permitted to come to the college on their own vehicles.He encouraged parents to motivate their children to participate actively in all curricular and co-curricular activities and to closely monitor their overall development. Concluding his address, he reminded the parents that marks alone are not important; life and character are far more important.

Mr Anthony Oliveira, President of Don Bosco club,the newly elected Vice President of PTA advised parents to take good care of their children at home, instill good values in them and guide them towards becoming responsible and compassionate individuals.

The Guest of Honour,Mr Roshan Lasrado, Vice President, Church Pastoral Council, Mai De Deus Church, Puttur was present on the occasion.

The Secretary, Mrs Ashwini K( Dept of Chemistry)presented the annual report and elected the new office bearers for the academic year 2026 -27.The Treasurer, Mr Sanjay S. ( Dept of Commerce)presented the statement of income and expenditure.
