Year 2011 has been declared by the United Nations and International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IYC-2011). It is to celebrate the contributions of women to science, since the year 2011 is the centenary celebration of awarding of Noble Prize to Madam Marrie Curie. A number of activities and programme have been conducted world wide this year under the theme “Chemistry-Our Life, Our Future”.
The Chemistry Department of St. Philomena P.U. College, Puttur had organised Inter Collegiate Competitions for P.U.Students in different events under the name “RADIANCE-2011” on 22nd November 2011. The motto of the programme was to appreciate the knowledge in chemistry possessed by young students, to signify the scope of chemistry in life and also to motivate them to pursue their studies in chemistry, which is an evergreen and ever shining subject.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Arunachalam Kumar, Dean Justice K.S. Hegde Medical College, Mangalore, Prof. Leo. Noronha, Principal of St. Philomena College was the Chief Guest. During the valedictory Rev. Fr. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro gave away the prizes to the winners. Rev. Fr. Gerald D’Souza, Correspondent presided over the programme. 12 teams from different P.U. Colleges of D.K district took part in the event. Alvas P.U. College, Moodbidri bagged the winners trophy, Canara P.U. College of Mangalore bagged the runners up trophy. Mr. Prashanth Bhat P. and Mrs. Ashwini compered the programme. Mr. Sukumara S.K. and Ms. Amritha Y. of Chemistry Department were present on the occasion.
