56th Annual Day Celebration

ST. Philomena P.U College daySt. Philomena P.U. College celebrated their 56th Annual Day on 2nd December 2014, in a grand manner in Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall, St. Philomena College, Puttur.

Addressing the gathering the Chief Guest of the function Mr. Walter D’Mello, D.D.P.I, Dakshina Kannada District said, “World had become mechanical. There is a tremendous change taking place in every field. What is there today was not there yesterday and what will be there tomorrow is beyond imagination. The Intelligent Quotient of the youngsters is improving but unfortunately not the Emotional Quotient. When it comes to happiness and success in life, EQ matters just as much as IQ.

Most importantly, stressing on hard work he also advised the students not to get deviated by the transient happiness and further, asked them to realize their responsibilities in the society.

Various best going student’s award, General Proficiency Prizes and achievers in sports, Academic, cultural, N.C.C were awarded on the occasion.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal, St. Philomena College said, “An institution and teacher play a very important role in shaping the destiny of an individual. What is important is to identify the ‘You’ within ‘You’. He advised the students to actively participate in all the activities of the college as it will help them to bring out the best out of them.

The Guest of Honour, Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director and Chairman of P.G Studies said, “Aim of the education is to be a good human being. At the end it is not the number of medals that matters but what matters is how we are formed.” Speaking about uncivilized and inhuman behavior of the people in the society he quoted a caption from a video, saying,” ‘When we were in schools we were taught not to behave like animals but now the time where we should be taught to behave like animals.’”

The President of the function, Rev. Fr. Alfred J. Pinto, Correspondent speaking about ‘Swatch Bharath’ he said, there should be both internal and external cleanliness.

Finally, there was cultural programme. In the colourful show, students brought to limelight their creative and artistic talents.

Mr. Jayakumar Rai, President, Alumni Association and Mr. Vincent Menezes, President, P.T.A. were present on this occasion. Rev Fr Vijay Lobo, Principal, St. Philomena P.U. College read the College Annual Report. Ms. Sahana Rao and team with their prayer song invoked God to shower his choicest blessings. Mr. Purushotham Shenoy, President, Students Council extended a warm welcome to the gathering. Mr. Sohan P.S. Secretary, Students Council proposed the Vote of Thanks. Ms. Josvita L. Lobo, Joint Secretary, Students Council compered the programme.
