Alumni Day Celebration – 2014

“The present students have enough to learn and gain from their seniors; by seeking help and guidance from the past students, the juniors who are presently pursuing their education in the college must grow with time and be successful in attaining key positions in society” – Correspondent of St. Philomena College Rev. Fr. Gerald D’souza gave a clarion call to the students.

He was delivering the presidential address on the occasion of Alumni Day Celebrations of the Alumni Association of St. Philomena College on 25-02-2014. He also urged students to create a conducive learning ambiance on the campus in order to foster good quality education in the institution.

Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal of the college who was present as guest of honour on the occasion opined that students must hold high regard towards their parents, teachers, the institution and the nation as well.

As the past students of the college have positive attitude towards the college, the Alumni association has been active in the college, said P.U. College Principal Rev. Fr. Vijay Lobo, who was also present as Guest of honour during the occasion.

Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus Director and Chairperson of P.G. Studies applauded the association loudly and said “the past students of the college, wherever they are or whatever they might be, possess high esteem and love towards their alma mater”. “Those who have studied here in this college bestow more importance upon societal values”, he added.

The alumni of the college Shri. B.V. Shegrithaya, National Award Winning Retired Headmaster; Shri Jayarama Kedilaya. S, President of Sandeepani Rural Education Society, Narimogaru, Puttur; Shri H.M. Krishna Kumar, DGM, Campco Chocolate Factory, Puttur were present as chief guests of the programme.

Alumni Association also felicitated all the three chief guests on the auspicious occasion. Correspondent of St. Philomena College Rev. Fr. Gerald D’souza honoured them with shawl wrapping around them, offering plate full of fruits and presenting memorable mementoes for their exceptional services rendered to society. After receiving the felicitation the chief guests put into words of their emotions as well as feelings and thanked everyone for honouring them. Former President Mr. Jagannivas Rao, Mr. Bharath Kumar, Mr. Jayakumar Rai. M introduced the guests to the audience prior to their felicitation.

Ms.Arpitha K.K, V rank holder in BSc.; Ms.Poornima I.K. IX rank holder in BA; Ms. Durgarchana.M, top scorer at Taluk level in PU examinations were honoured on the occasion. Prof. Chandrashekar.K, Prof Subair, Prof.Vathsala delivered felicitation speeches.

The outstanding sports persons of the college were also recognized for their brilliant performance. Mr. Prakash D’souza , Physical education director of the college readout the names of the students.

One minute silence was observed to mourn on the demise of Former Principal of the college Rev. Fr. Henry Castelino; well wisher as well as Alumnus of the college Mr. Vijay Rai Palthad; and all other alumni members who might have passed away during the year.

The prizes to the winners of Alumni Sports Meet which was held on 23-02-2014 on the occasion of Alumni Day celebrations were distributed. Prof. Varija performed the task of announcing the results.

Secretary of the association Mr. Prasanna Kumar.C presented the Annual Report of the year 2013-14. President of the Association Mr. CA Gangadhar welcomed all the dignitaries and invitees. Mr. Jairaj Bhandary, Mrs. Prathima Hegde, Mr. Jayakumar Rai M.R, Mr. John Coutinha welcomed the guests by offering books as token of love and gratitude. The former presidents and secretaries of the Alumni association have also been welcomed in a special manner by offering flower from the President of the function.

Secretary of the association Mr. Prasanna Kumar.C presented the Annual Report of the year 2013-2014. He also proposed vote of thanks at the end of the formal programme. Prof. Varija & team performed the task of invoking God’s blessings. The Treasurer of the association Mr. Prashanth Rai served as Master of Ceremony on the occasion.

The cultural programme was held after the completion of formal function. The alumni members of the association rendered variety entertainment to the audience. Mr. Pattabhiram Sullia, a well-known mimicry artist presented shadow play, mimicry at his best received the admiration of all the audience gathered on the occasion. Ms. Jeevitha sequeira compered the whole proceedings of the cultural programme.
